What the hell's the Wells Fargo Embargo?

The plan is to hold up a bank.

Seriously.

Wells Fargo, to be specific.

Why Wells Fargo? (Why not?)

We recently found out that Wells Fargo is one of the top shareholders in GEO Group, a contractor for privatized prisons, immigration detention centers, and Guantanamo Bay.

Profiteering from prisons and torture is bad business.

We plan to mobilize at least 100 Wells Fargo "customers" to stand in line at the
bank for a full business day. By holding up the line, concerned customers and community members can restrict the usual flow of business without breaking any laws.

If business-as-usual means totalitarian restriction, then we have no choice but to totally restrict business-as-usual!

This could be a model of resistance for any town; for any complicit business.

Teams of 25-50 customers will trade off shifts to cover the 8 hour work day.

As customers get to the front of the line, they can ask lengthy questions, tell jokes, flirt, or simply ask Wells Fargo to make a withdrawal of their investment in GEO Group. When they're done, they simply hop back in line and rejoin the party.

Participants will help shape the performance/intervention/happening/protest through their own improvised interactions with bank staff and other customers.

This event will be complete with treats, beats, and merriment!

The Great 2008 Hold Up! The Wells Fargo Embargo! Their line will be their decline! Their faults shall echo through their vaults! We shall reverse their perverse commerce!
